Welcome To AEDs Today - Saving lives. Together

Saving lives one aed at a time

Did you know that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death for adults over the age of forty? Nearly 300,000 people die every year from SCA in the United States alone.

To help put that number into perspective, more people die annually from sudden cardiac arrest than breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, automobile accidents, firearms, house fires, and AIDS.

While the statistics are alarming, the good news is that the vast majority of those lives can be saved. When sudden cardiac arrest strikes, an automated external defibrillator - or AED - makes all the difference between life and death. If an AED is not readily available during an incident of SCA, the survival rate is less than 5%. However, if an AED is on hand, the survival rate jumps to a staggering 95%.

And that's where we come in. The effort to save those lives is what we do at AEDs Today. For nearly twenty years our team of medical professionals have devoted ourselves to saving lives through the implementation of AED programs throughout the United States and beyond. By equipping individuals and institutions with AEDs, literally tens of thousands of lives can be saved. So together, let's save a life. One AED at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is a lifesaving device used to administer an electric shock and restore the heart's normal rhythm during an incident of sudden cardiac arrest.

Sudden cardiac arrest (or SCA) is one of the world's leading causes of death. In the United States alone, sudden cardiac arrest claims the lives of nearly 300,000 people every year.

Due to limited AED accessibility, the survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest is unfortunately less than 5%. However, if an AED is available and provides therapy to a patient in need, the survival rate jumps to an incredible 95%.

In short, an AED is a lifesaving device. And through increased AED awareness, literally hundreds of thousands of lives can be saved each year.

While we're certainly biased given our line of work and being familiar with the statistics, we wholeheartedly believe having an AED on hand is always a great idea. In fact, most of our team members carry an AED in our cars at all times, wanting to be ready no matter where life finds us.

Given the prevalence of sudden cardiac arrest, ownership of an AED could very well lead to a life being saved. And depending on your situation, an AED may even be required by law.

For many states and cities, an AED program is legally required for schools, gyms, community centers, and others. If you have a question regarding your state or city's AED requirements, simply give us a call. We're more than happy to help.

Also of note is that most instances of sudden cardiac arrest occurs at home (57 - 75%). Due to this statistic, we recommend our customers equipping their homes with an easy-to-use AED.

As AED awareness has increased over the years, many of the AEDs on the market are tailored for lay responders. That is, the AEDs are designed for bystanders to be able to use in emergency situations.

So if you're not a medical professional and yet find yourself required to implement an AED program or are simply taking the initiative upon yourself, there's no need to fret. The AEDs themselves will walk you through the necessary steps to deliver the lifesaving therapy for those in need.

Great question.

All AEDs require some maintenance - albeit minimal - as they have accessories that feature expiration dates. Specifically, all of the the batteries and electrodes/pads for AEDs expire, regardless of your AED model.

You can find the expiration dates for the AED's battery or pads on the packaging itself. Please note that it is vital that these items are replaced before their expiration date.

In addition, most states require that an AED program keep monthly records of their AEDs. (This is somewhat similar to the records that are often required for fire extinguishers and maintenance.)

If you're looking to simplify the maintenance of your AED program, we recommend signing up for our AED Program Management via AED Authority. One of the primary perks is that as the expiration dates near for your AED's disposables, you'll receive replacements free of charge.

As for the typical run of life of an AED, our general rule of thumb is that an AED should be replaced before it hits the ten year mark.

While we see some AEDs last for an incredible length of time, the warranties for all AEDs will have expired around eight years, if not well before. (This depends on your AED's make and model.)

Furthermore, given the incredible sensitivity of an AED and its lifesaving function and purpose, we wholeheartedly recommend that our clients err on the side of caution and regularly replace their devices.

That we do.

AED Authority provides best-in-class AED program management for clients, large and small. Our AED Concierge Program ensures that you're ready to save a life while so too ensuring your AED program is fully compliant with state and local statutes.

When your AED accessories expire, such as your battery or electrodes/pads, we'll ship you the replacements, free of charge.

If you happen to use your AED, an AED will be overnighted to you as we assemble the required paperwork and records for your use of your AED. And upon the return of your AED, your AED will be equipped with new electrodes and batteries.

Again, free of charge.

In short, AED Authority provides truly the best in AED program management and medical oversight, and removes any uncertainty in the implementation of a lifesaving AED program.
