Lives Saved By AEDs
An AED saved the life of 31-year-old Miguel Garcia, after he collapsed
on the field and fell into sudden cardiac arrest. After both teams
rushed to his aid and an AED was used to revive his heart, Garcia was
rushed to the local hospital, where he was outfitted with a stint and
will remain for 24-hours.
Garcia's rescue is a positive note for a string of recent tragedies that have stricken two Primera Division players recently. Sevilla's Antonio Puerta, 26, died last August after his heart stopped following a training session in Italy. The second, Espanyol's Daniel Jarque, only 22-years-old, died three days after suffering cardiac arrest during a league match against Getafe.
We wish Miguel Garcia the quickest of recoveries and congratulate his rescuers that are responsible for his new lease on life.
