An off-duty nurse came to the rescue after a 66-year-old Virginia Beach man collapsed under sudden cardiac arrest during a Thanksgiving Day road race. The man collapsed near the end of the run, around the five-and-a-half mile marker, and was quickly tended to by police officers with an AED.

Quick thinking and the ready accessibility of an AED saved the life of a 70-year-old Germantown, Tennessee man. The man collapsed while sitting at a table at the Germantown Athletic Club. Club employee Teresa Martin quickly addressed the scene, telling her staff to call 911 while she ran to retrieve the Club's AED. After one quick shock from the AED, the man's heart revived itself and is now expected to fully recover.

One shock from an AED saved a college student's life earlier this month at Georgian College in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. The student collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest while attending class on November 8th. As classmates called 911, one faculty member performed CPR while another retrieved a nearby AED. From one simple shock, the AED was able to stabilize the woman's heart rhythm.

One moment Dan Mauger was speaking to a prosecutor in a crowded Cherry Hill, New Jersey, courtroom, and in the the next he was laying on the floor suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.
"I was speaking to the prosecutor...They said I just dropped and started convulsing," said Mauger. "I remember blackness. To me, I thought I was only out ten minutes, but I was really in the intensive care unit of Kennedy for two-and-a-half days."

Vince Brown, Site Operations Leader at Owens Corning Science and Technology Center, doesn't think of saving the life of a fellow co-worker as an act of heroism. Instead, Brown says, he was simply responding to an emergency situation and providing the necessary actions to save the life of Dr. Robert Quinn. Either way, survivor Dr. Quinn "feels pretty lucky Vince Brown was there when I needed him."
