An AED saved the life of 31-year-old Miguel Garcia, after he collapsed on the field and fell into sudden cardiac arrest. After both teams rushed to his aid and an AED was used to revive his heart, Garcia was rushed to the local hospital, where he was outfitted with a stint and will remain for at least 24 hours.

A 51-year-old woman from Rochester, New York, collapsed during the Detroit Marathon on October 17th, 2010. The woman, who was running her first marathon, collapsed near the second mile marker as she suffered cardiac arrest. Medical technicians performed CPR and restored her heartbeat through the use of an AED.

A man is alive today due to the ready access of an automated external defibrillator and the quick thinking of three men. The Mayor of West Kelowna told the City's Council that on October 6th at the Royal LePage Place hockey rink an unidentified man collapsed in the dressing room during a recreational hockey game. Dave Stewart, an employee of the facility, came to the rescue and saved the man.

Chicago native Elizabeth Pearlman collapsed while taking part in a conditioning drill with her college basketball team last October. As Pearlman and her doctors state, if it wasn't for an AED being readily available, that day in the fall of 2009 likely would have been her last.

15-year-old Katelyn Crowley is now considered a hero by more than one person. While running up a hill with three of her classmates, her friend Johnny Ostrand fell to the ground. Initially thinking the scenario was only a joke, when Katelyn saw Johnny's lips were blue and that he wasn't breathing, she knew this was serious and that she had to act fast.
